Anna
Mae Strife, 95, formerly of Collins Street, died on Tuesday
evening, Oct. 23, at the Lewis County Residential Health
Care Facility with
her family and friends at her side.
She was born
Sept. 15, 1917, in the town of Harrisburg, a daughter of the
late Henry and Edith Hanno Boshart.
After graduating from Lowville Free Academy and Utica Beauty
School, Anna Mae first worked for Ethel Donahue’s beauty
salon on Shady Avenue. She then opened her own beauty salon
at her home on Collins Street in the village and retired
with over 60 years as a beautician.
She married Niles M. Strife, who worked for Nortz and
Virkler. Niles died Sept. 28, 1986.
Mrs. Strife was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic
Church where she volunteered and began the Harvest Dinner.
Anna was member of the Rosary Altar Society and the
Daughters of Isabella.
At home, she was a great cook and enjoyed knitting and
reading.
Surviving are a son, Stephen Lee, Florida; two sisters,
Shirley Dening McGrath, Lowville, and Jane Wengert, Utica;
her very best friend, Phyllis Hanno, many nieces, nephews.
A son, Garrett H. Lee, a brother, Raymond Boshart; and her
sisters, Vivian Kelley and Margaret Henry, all died before
her.
A funeral mass will be said 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St.
Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara,
pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lowville Rural
Cemetery.
Family and friends may call 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at
Sundquist Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held
at 10:15 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Carrara, followed by the
funeral mass at St. Peter’s.
