— William A. “Tony” Cross, 72, of 13869 South Bonaparte Road,
town of Diana, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at home.
Born April 8, 1937, the son of Sophie V. Makosky and William Henry Cross in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
He married Stephanie Smith on May 25, 1958.
Mr. Cross served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960, including one year in Saudi Arabia. After the Air force, he worked at W.L. Smith in
Newburgh.
He joined the New York State Police in 1962. He retired from the New York
State Police in 1982 and moved to Harrisville.
He had several part- time jobs but mostly enjoyed his farm and woodworking.
Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, Stephanie Cross of
Harrisville; three children, Colleen King, Copenhagen, William “Chris” Cross,
Alabama, and Jennifer Lee Brown, Harrisville; four grandchildren; Heather Bernhard, Copenhagen; Elizabeth King, Copenhagen, Jamie Brown, Harrisville, and Keitha Remington, Dover,
Del.; and four great-grandchildren; his best pal, Autumn, the lab mix who he couldn’t leave home without.
He will be greatly missed!
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in
the chapel of the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Carthage, with
Rev. Frances Hemstreet, pastor of the Harrisville United
Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be held privately by the family.
