HARRISVILLE, N.Y. — Stanley T.
"Dick" Slate, 83, of County Route 23, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, at
his home while under the loving care of his family and Lewis
County Hospice.
A funeral service with
military honors will be held noon Saturday, Nov. 3, at
Adirondack Funeral Home, Harrisville.
He died Wednesday morning,
Oct. 31, at his home while under the care of his loving
family and Lewis County Hospice.
Born June 27, 1929, in the Lewisburg area of the Town of
Wilna on June 27, 1929, a son of Elmer Stanley and Maude
Hubbard Slate, he attended school in Newton Falls.
Mr. Slate joined the Marines in 1945 and served in North
Africa, New Guinea and aboard the USS Midway. He was
honorably discharged in 1948.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Mae Northrup on June
19, 1949, in Newton Falls.
Mr. Slate was a coater operator at Newton Falls Paper Co.
for 47 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge in Fine, NY. and a member of the East Pitcairn
Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending
time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was
involved in the construction of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Tunnel and the Clifton Fine Central School.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Elmer
Fred and Laurie Slate, Chaumont; five daughters and four
sons-in-law, Celia Eileen and Bruce Bango, Candy Jolane and
David Sullivan and Estella Louise (Jo) and Lane Garrow, all
of Harrisville, Cynthia Karen and Stephen Davoy, Lowville,
and Corrine Rose Slate, North Carolina;16 grandchildren, 18
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Four siblings, Derlyn Philip, Hermon George (Ted), Virginia
Mae Barnhart, and Carol Marie Cross, and a foster brother,
Crandall”Tootsie” LaPlante, all died before him.
