Evelyn J. Waters

LORRAINE, N.Y.  —  Evelyn Joan "Evie" Waters, 90, 20957 Route 93, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown, where she had been a resident for a short time. 

She was born July 11, 1921, in Worth, a daughter to William and Jeanette Stinson Bates.  

She married Deputy Sheriff Harry G. Waters, Jr. on Aug. 15, 1942, in Sandy Creek. He passed Sept. 14, 1959.

Mrs. Waters worked as a homemaker and on the family farm for many years. She retired from A & P Grocery Store in Watertown. 

Evelyn enjoyed music and dancing, and was a regular attendee at the weekly dances at the Dulles State Office Building with her longtime companion Carl L. Eastman and friends. Playing cards was a favorite past time, especially after her great home cooked meals. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and the outdoors. 

She was a member of the Lorraine Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxillary in Adams, NY.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Ann Waters, Cicero; two grandsons, Charles B. Waters, Massapequa Park, N.Y., Alexander M. Waters, Cicero; a great-grandson, Connor J. Waters, Massapequa Park, N.Y.; a former daughter-in-law, Patricia Drake, Strongsville, Ohio; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by seven sisters, Doris Hollis, Mabel Moon, Alice Moreton, Dora Nolder, Margaret Ramsdell, Nellie Reynolds, Irene Sperling; and five brothers, Andrew, Burley, Carl, Lawrence and Robert Bates.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov., 5, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Drake officiating. Burial will take place after the service in Rural Cemetery, Adams.  Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the funeral home. 

Donations may be made in her name to the Lorraine Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 89, Lorraine, NY 13659. Evelyn’s father, William, was a founding member in 1962. Donations may also be made to the Lorraine Methodist Church, PO Box 380, Mannsville, NY 13661.
