CARTHAGE, N.Y.  —  Donald F. Hewitt, 75, of 32085 County Route 163, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, at the Lewis County Nursing Home, Lowville, where he was a resident. 

Born March 15, 1936, in Alexandria Bay, a son of the late Joseph and Marion Loomis Hewitt, he graduated from Copenhagen High School.  

He married Hazel Harriet Bray on July 16, 1955, at the Asbury Methodist Church, Watertown. She passed away in March 2003. 

Mr. Hewitt worked as a crane operator at Black Clawson, Watertown, for 25 years.  

He enjoyed bingo, shuffleboard, making jewelry out of rocks, and hunting.   

Surviving are a son, Tim (Jodi) Hewitt, Carthage; a daughter, Pamela (Joseph) Papa, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Anderson, Watertown; six grandchildren, Donald, Kimberly, Jason, Houston, Mark, Richard; and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. 

A son, Thomas J., and a daughter, Gail Louise Hatcher, both died before him. 

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the funeral home. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Reed and Benoit Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Champion, at the convenience of the family.
