LOWVILLE, N.Y. —
Nancy B. Lyng, 74, of Sharp Street, died Saturday evening,
Nov.12, under the care of her husband Neil, her family, and
Lewis County Hospice.
Born Sept. 4, 1937, in Croghan at Ida Lee’s, the daughter
of the late Richard G. and Genevieve Andre Burkhard, she
graduated in 1955 from Fr. Leo Memorial, and Mercy Hospital
School of Nursing in Watertown.
Nancy married Neil John Lyng on Sept. 5, 1959, at St.
Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with Rev. Thomas
Aquinas, officiating.
She began her career as registered nurse at Lewis County
General Hospital where she soon began to work as a nursing
instructor for the Manpower Program. Later, she joined the
teaching staff at Jeff – Lewis BOCES in Glenfield.
Early in her teaching career she graduated from Upper
Division College in Utica with her bachelor’s of science
in education. Nancy retired from Jeff-Lewis BOCES as
Supervisor of the LPN nursing programs in both Jefferson and
Lewis Counties in 1993.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Neil J., her three
children and their spouses, Anne and Gerald Crowell of
Lowville; Jeffrey and Denise Lyng of Lowville; Patrick and
Kristine Lyng of Greig; her sister Mary Ann Hornig of
Lowville; five grandchildren, Sheena, Tonya, Dustin, Katie,
and Chrissy, a great granddaughter, Bree; her two
sisters-in-law, Patricia Marcotte and her husband Wayne of
Ohio; Mary Lyng of Lowville; an aunt, Joyce Boucher of
Lowville and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers-in-law, William Hornig, Sr. and David Lyng, both
died before her.
Nancy was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a
past member of the board of directors of the Lake Bonaparte
Conservation Club and a member and past president of Tug
Hill Quilters.
She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends
at the family camp on Lake Bonaparte.
A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at
St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara,
pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Sundquist Funeral Home.
