Charles O. Countryman, 92 formerly of Cape Vincent,
died Monday, Nov. 14, at Lewis County General Resident
Health Care Facility, Lowville.
A memorial service will
be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Cape
Vincent, with burial following at Riverside Cemetery.
Born Sept. 7, 1919, in Cape Vincent, the son of Sherwood and
Ina Robertson Countryman, he graduated from Cape Vincent
Schools.
He married June Busack on Oct. 4, 1947, at St. John’s
Episcopalian Church, Cape Vincent.
Mr. Countryman was in the army air corps during World War II.
He was a corporal in the 826th Air Engineer
Squadron. He then became a farm manager at Deerlick farms,
Cape Vincent, until 1968, after which he worked for the
Thousand Island State Park Association, retiring in 1985.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Seaway Country
Club, Clayton.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons and their wives,
Steven and Kathy Countryman, Richmond, Va., Jeffery and
Melissa Countryman, Ballston Spa, and Todd and Sandy
Countryman, Watertown; a daughter, Julie Countryman, Golden,
Colo.; a brother, Frank Countryman, Queensbury, N.Y.; a
sister, Ina Maloney, Clayton; eight grandchildren, and four
great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Jill Countryman Joyce, three brothers, John,
William and Edward, a sister, Isabelle Rhienbeck; and a half
brother, Benjamin, all died before him.
Arrangements are with Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent.
