Carron Getman

WEST CARTHAGE, N.Y.  —  Carron Getman, 76, of 28 Vincent St., died peacefully at home on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 15, while under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born Dec. 17, 1935, in Bainbridge, N.Y., the daughter of DeForest Lewis Reed and Marion Johnson Reed, she graduated from Carthage High School. 

She worked as the book keeper and secretary for DL Reed Trucking and the Abbass Food Corporation before retiring from Champion Materials. 

Mrs. Getman was enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and was very fond of her pet cats.

She married Donald F. Getman on Oct. 2, 1955, at the former United Community Church in West Carthage. Mr. Getman served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954 and was a former longtime mayor of West Carthage. He died Sept. 1, 2001.

She is survived by her children, Darell “Chip”Getman and his companion, Michelle Williams, Carthage and Kelli Jo Getman Furnare and her husband, Chris, Canandaigua; siblings, Donna Ross Craft, Joann Zando, Lancing Reed, Wayne Reed, David Reed and Linda Stackel; and four grandchildren; Kristen, Amy and Andrew Furnare and Lucas Getman.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Francis Reed.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in the chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with Rev. Jane Wagner, pastor of the United Community Church, Carthage, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 Sunday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home.
