James L. Gallagher Sr.

CARTHAGE, N.Y.    James Lee "Jim" Gallagher Sr., 77, formerly of Carthage, passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 14, after a very brief illness. He developed complications to pulmonary fibrosis while receiving treatment at the Veteran’s Hospital in Washington D.C. 

Jim donated his body to the George Washington University and inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Jim worked for the Army, Navy as an aircrew man, Pennsylvania Railroad as the last coal thrower and then back into the Army as a parachute rigger and career counselor. He retired as a sergeant first class in 1976. 

His best career choice was being a stay at home dad and grandpa where he enjoyed raising the boys Ravi, Matthew and Aaron. Jim was a fabulous and caring father, grandpa and friend. He cared very deeply for those involved in his family’s life.

He leaves behind a daughter, Ena; two sons, James and John along with a daughter-in-law, Paula and several grandchildren including Matthew and Aaron Gallagher

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage with Rev. George  F. Maroun of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to the George Washington Hospital Center Fund, 110 Irving Street NE, East Building Room #1001, Washington, DC 20010 (check payable to the Foundation and in memo, Pulmonary Dept.) or DAV Chapter 18, 216 Haley Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
