BAY, N.Y.
– Royal A. Strough, 78, of 10 Highland St.,
died at River Hospital on Saturday after being stricken at
home.
Born July 26, 1928, in Alexandria Bay, a son of Walter A and
Jenny Gaylord Strough. He attended Alexandria Bay
schools and served in the United States Army from 1951 until
1953.
He married Shirley J. Robinson on June 18, 1956, in
Alexandria Bay, with Rev. Henry Hospers officiating.
He was a longtime employee of the village of Alexandria Bay
and was a volunteer member of the Alexandria Bay Fire Dept.
for over 50 years where he was active in firematics.
He was also a member of the American Legion Post 904,
enjoyed golf, bowling, NASCAR, and the NY Yankees.
Along with his wife, Shirley, he is survived by two sons and
their wives of Alexandria Bay, Douglas & Jackie, and
Daniel & Mary; a daughter and her fiancé, Debra Strough
and Martin Moynihan, Syracuse, NY; a brother and his wife,
Lloyd & Margaret Strough, Alexandria Bay; a sister,
Minnie Maynard, Rock Falls, IL; three grandchildren; and
many nieces, nephews and cousins. Four brothers, Ivan,
Pete, William, and Sterling, and one sister, Cora Dobbins,
died before him.
Calling hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home on 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be
held at the funeral home 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Helen
Beck officiating. Burial will be at Barnes Settlement
Cemetery.
