Verne W. Mantle, 99, of Mill Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility,
Lowville.
Born July 8, 1912, in Harrisville, the son of LeRoy and Jennie Mullen
Mantle, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served from
1942 to 1945.
Verne retired in 1977 from St. Joe’s Minerals after 26 years of dedicated service.
Verne was well known for his vegetable garden. He gardened every year into his
90s
.
Verne was predeceased by his wife, Betty in 2007; two sisters, Leone and Helen, and six brothers; Hilton, Lawrence, Wayne, Orren, Ralph and Roy.
Surviving
are a son, Brian, Harrisville; four daughters, Susan Vincent,
Liverpool, Nancy and Chris Dolce, Mattydale, Debra Miller, Rhode
Island, and Dawn and Ernest Fahsel, Liverpool; eight grandchildren, Lukas, Ashley, Nicole, CJ, Kayleigh, Trey, Taylor, and Connor; two sisters, Geraldine Squires, Rome; and Marie Mantle, Lowville; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at
United Methodist Church in Harrisville. A funeral service will be held with
Rev. Frances Hemstreet, pastor, officiating. Burial will be
in Harrisville Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
