BLACK RIVER, N.Y.  —  Susan M. Nier, 64, of Black River died Saturday, Nov. 24, at Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown, where she had resided for about two months.

Born Nov. 8, 1948, in Lyons, N.Y., the daughter of Roland and Alice (Luther) Hoppe, she graduated in 1966 from Watertown High School in 1966.

Mrs. Nier was a member of the Life Church of the Nazarene in Watertown and was very active in the Welcoming Center and many church activities.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Michael and Vyrna Nier, Smyrna, Ga.; three grandchildren and a great grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Fred) Kohler, Croghan; two brothers, Gary (Emily) Hoppe, Black River, and Darrell (Mary) Hoppe, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown, with Rev. Chad Clardie of the Life Church of the Nazarene officiating. Calling Hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
