Agnes I. Amyot, 84, of County Route 6, town of
Hammond, died Thursday, Nov. 24, at Claxton Hepburn Medical
Center, Ogdensburg. She had been a resident of United
Helpers Nursing Home, town of Oswegatchie, since August
2010.
Born June 12, 1927, in Alexandria Bay, the daughter of Lloyd
and Jessie Alice Peck Van Cour, she attended school in
Alexandria Bay.
She married Alexander J. Amyot on Feb. 19, 1944, at the
Methodist parsonage in Alexandria Bay. Mr. Amyot died Oct.
21, 2005.
After marriage the couple moved to Michigan for a few
months, where Mr. Amyot worked in a defense factory. They
returned to Wellesley Island where they worked at the E.J.
Noble farm. They then purchased a dairy farm on the Calaboga
Road, town of Hammond, which they operated for over forty
years.
Following retirement from dairy farming in 1984, they moved
to Chippewa Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Amyot worked for the NYS
Parks and Recreation as seasonal caretakers on Cedar Island
State Park for sixteen years, retiring in 2000.
She was an Avon representative for thirteen years and a
member of the St. Peters Catholic Church, Hammond.
Mrs. Amyot enjoyed reading, listening to music, trying new
recipes and spending time with her children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Van A. and
Darlene Amyot, and David and Janet Amyot, all of Hammond;
three daughters and their husbands, Carol Rogers, Redwood,
Linda and Reed Crowner and Sherry and David Furgison, all of
Hammond; 13 grandchildren;, 16 great grandchildren; six
sisters-in-law, Lillian Van Cour, Alexandria Bay, Juliette
Ferguson and Margaret Amyot, both of Redwood, Clara
Leckinger, Alene Decker and her husband, Robert and
Constance Panunzio and her husband, Louis, all of Hammond.
A great granddaughter, Ashley Amyot, a great-grandson, David
Gates, a son-in-law, Richard Rogers and a brother, James Van
Cour, died before her.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peters Catholic
Church, Hammond.
Burial will be at Barnes Settlement Cemetery, Alexandria
Bay.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Frederick Bros.
