Natale S. Spano, 77, of
Park Avenue, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, at Samaritan
Medical Center, Watertown.
A
funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Friday, Nov, 30, at Saint
Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson,
pastor of St. Anthony’s and St. Patrick’s Catholic
Churches, officiating. Burial will be in Lowville Rural
Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday,
Nov. 29, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
Born Dec. 25, 1934, in Watertown, a son of the late Philip
and Carmella M. Amedeo Spano, he graduated in 1953 from
Watertown High School After he graduated, he played
drums seven nights a week at Club Colonial in Watertown and
worked at Sparcino’s Produce Warehouse for many years.
He married Constance A. Mitchell on Sept. 20, 1958, at St.
Anthony’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Dennis Lynch,
officiating. Nate worked for Grand Union Grocery Store in
Watertown and Adams and Grand Way in Rome, then working for
Grand Union in Watertown, Lowville and Clayton for 13 years,
before going to work at the Commissary at Ft. Drum. He
retired from the Commissary at Ft. Drum in 1999, after 22
years.
Nate
was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church,
Lowville, where he was an Eucharistic Minister and
greeter.
He was a 3rd Degree member of the Rev. CJ.
McMorrow Council #781, K of C. He was a member of BPOE
#1605, Lowville Lodge.
He played with the Frank Sacci Big Band for over 45 years.
He was a member of the Lowville Village Band. He was active
with the pit band for school plays for Lowville Academy,
Indian River, South Lewis and Watertown High School. He
enjoyed taking walks with his wife, gardening, playing his
drums, puttering down cellar, having coffee with friends at
Gary’s Restaurant.
Years ago, he enjoyed hiking with family and friends. He
enjoyed drawing, cooking, and word jumbles.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Connie; four
daughters, Catherine and her husband, Mark Martin, Lowville,
Natalie and her husband, Jeffrey Marolf, Lowville, Carmel
and her husband, Robert Foltan, Delmar, and Claudia Spano,
Lewisville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Angel Martin;
Anthony Martin and his wife, Stephanie; Matthew Jones and
his fiancé’, Andrea; Tyler Jones; Christopher and Corey
Kaler; Bianca and Mariah Foltan; a great-grandson, Seth, and
one on the way; a sister, Florence Martino, Watertown; a
brother, Dominic and his wife, Susan Spano, Watertown; four
sisters-in-law, Loretta and Elizabeth Spano, Norma Wood and
Roberta Mitchell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two brothers, Joseph and Saverio “Sam” Spano, died
before him.
