WATERTOWN N.Y.  —  Janet E. Emrich, 80, died Sunday morning, Nov. 27, in the emergency room at Samaritan Medical Center.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home with burial following in North Watertown Cemetery.

Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Cape Vincent, daughter of Lewis Jerry and Mary Evelyn McDermott Carroll, she had attended Cape Vincent Elementary School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1948.

On April 17, 1971 she married George Emrich at Trinity Episcopal Church and he died Aug. 21, 2010.

She had worked as a teller for Watertown Savings Bank and in the insurance office of Carroll D. Wright. From 1979 until her retirement in September 1998, she worked in the Medicaid and Medicare department for Jefferson County Department of Social Services.

Mrs. Emrich was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

She was also a member and past president of the American Legion Post 61 Auxiliary, and a member for many years of the Watertown City Bowling League. 

She enjoyed baking and watching the New York Yankees.

She is survived by her two sons, George F., Watertown, and Jerry J., Rochester; a brother and his wife, Alan L. and Judy Carroll, Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her niece, Nancy Swenson, Cape Vincent. 

Besides her husband, George, she was predeceased by her sister, Kathryn L. Carroll, died 2000, and her three brothers, who were all World War II veterans, Richard J. Carroll, Sr., died 1975, Kenneth J. Carroll, died 1992, and Arthur F. Carroll, died 2001.
