Elveria
M. Martin, 79, formerly of State Route 812, died Friday
morning, Nov. 30, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare
Facility.
The
funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Apostolic
Christian Church of America, Croghan, with Ministers of the
Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Apostolic
Christian Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 1, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
Born Jan. 11, 1933, in Belfort, a daughter of Vernon and
Katherine Zehr Martin, she attended country school in
Belfort.
She married Bernard J. Martin on Sept. 10, 1955, at Croghan
Conservative Mennonite Church.
She raised her family, and together with her husband, were
foster parents for over 20 foster children, over many years.
Mr. Martin died April 13, 1996. She was a caregiver for the
elderly for many years.
She
loved watching her grand kids and great- grand kids. Elveria
loved to sing.
Surviving are two children, Joyce A. and Dean Greenwood,
Lowville, and Timothy J. Martin, Lowville; four
grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, Scott and Missy
Greenwood and their children, Jaedyn and Brennan, Lowville;
Tonya Greenwood, Lowville; Heather and Jacob Huffman, North
Carolina; Amber Greenwood, Carthage; 11 brothers and
sisters, Rosemary and Edward Wagler, Lowville, Ralph and
Carol Martin, Turin, Ezra and Wilma Martin, Castorland,
Helen and Ron DeRouchie, Brownville, Mahlon and Sue Martin,
Port Leyden, Gil and Sue Martin, Boonville, Doris and Joe
Robbins, Denmark, Sharon and Andy Zehr, Castorland, Joan and
Stanley Widrick, Croghan, Bruce and Sheryl Martin, Croghan,
Richard and Kim Martin, Boonville; a brother-in-law, Gary
Rivers Sr.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents, two sisters, Clara Boliver and Geneva Rivers,
and two brothers, Norbert Martin and Elmer Martin, all died
before her.
