REDWOOD, N.Y.  —   Florence R. Running, 89, formerly of Route 37, died Saturday evening, Dec. 1, at the Hospice of Jefferson County facility in Watertown.

Born June 2, 1923, in the town of Alexandria, a daughter of Robert F. and Jennie Northrop Fitzsimmons, she was educated in Alexandria Bay schools. 

She married Merrill W. “Web” Running on June 30, 1940, at St. Cyril’s Church, with Fr. Armond Dusault officiating. Mr. Running died May 4, 2009. 

Florence worked as a postal clerk at the Alexandria Bay post office for 16 years. 

She was a communicant of St. Francis Xaivier Church and served on the Alter and Rosary Society.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Terrance and Charlotte Running, Sackets Harbor, and Sean and Catherine Running, LaFargeville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine and Richard Edgar, Redwood, Jane Hunter, Alexandria Bay, and Christine Running-Chaltain, Hope Mills, N.C.; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

Three brothers Lowel, Claude and Robert Fitzsimmons and three sisters, Irene Thomas, Pauline Bergren and Ellen Fitzsimmons, all died before her.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Costello Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be said 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Cyril’s Church in Alexandria Bay with Fr. Douglas Comstock officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Redwood.
