Phyllis Jean Covey, 82, of 222 State St., died Saturday,
Dec. 3, at the Carthage Area Hospital where she had been a resident of the Skilled Nursing Unit since June 2010.
Born Feb. 15, 1929, in Carthage, the daughter of Oman and
Beatrice Bulford Gardner, she attended local schools.
She married Robert L. Covey on Sept. 7, 1947. Robert died
Nov. 1, 1999.
Surviving are two children; David and his wife, Penny Covey,
Carthage, and Daniel and his wife, JoAnn Covey, Carthage; a daughter-in-law, Sue Covey; a sister, Joan Caldwell, West Carthage; a brother
and his wife, Leonard and Linda Gardner, Waterloo; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A son, Donald O. Covey, a daughter, Jean Perkins, a granddaughter, Amy Jo Covey, and a great- grandson, Joshua
Steria, all died before her.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service,
Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held
11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the chapel of the funeral home with
Rev. Linda J. Harris, pastor of the United Methodist Church in
Carthage, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Carthage.
