Douglas R. Swartout

EVANS MILLS, N.Y.  —  Douglas R. Swartout, 86, of Elm Ridge Road, died early Monday, Dec. 5,  at home while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. 

Born April 6, 1925, in South Westerlow, the son of Ruben and Millicent Lockwood Swartout, he attended Schoharie Central School. 

He married Elaine Matthews on June 29, 1947. She died Dec. 29, 2005.   

Mr. Swartout was a truck driver for forty years, retiring from Smith Transport, Wellesley Island in 1985 after thirty eight years of employment. 

Survivors include a son and his wife, Ronald and Susan, Carthage; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Craig Kennedy, Savannah and Judy and Lou Spitzer, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Mike and Jessica Swartout, Sharon Kennedy, Lance and Linda Kennedy and James David “JD” Kennedy; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

A sister, Virginia Kimple, died before him. 

The will be no services. 

Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa.
