Elizabeth O. Atkinson

BELLEVILLE, N.Y.  —  Elizabeth “Betty” Otis Munson Atkinson, 90, formerly of Ellisburg and Sandy Creek, died Monday morning at the Pontiac Nursing Home in Oswego where she had resided since January.  

Born June 15, 1921, in the town of Ellisburg to Ellis and Jennie Williams Otis, she attended school at the Gallea District 22 and later Belleville Central School. 

She married Robert Munson on March 31, 1940, in Ellisburg. The marriage ended in divorce. She later married Carl Atkinson on Oct. 5, 1978, in Pulaski. Mr. Atkinson passed away Dec. 5, 1997. 

Mrs. Atkinson was a cook at the Belleville Henderson Central School for 30 years, and a bartender at Lakeview Restaurant, Village Tavern in Belleville, Wigwam Hotel, Hotel Comfort, Bayview Hotel and the Elms Golf Club Restaurant. 

She was an election inspector for 42 years. 

Mrs. Atkinson was a member of the Ellisburg United Methodist Church for 50 years, Past President of the Ellisburg Willing Workers, Ellisburg Library, Cable Trail VFW Auxiliary 8534, Lacona, Belleville Eudora Chapter 136 of the Eastern Star, Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church and volunteered at the Sandy Creek History Center, Sandy Creek Friendship Shop and Belleville Henderson Central School. 

Surviving are
a daughter, Patricia (James) Atkinson, Pulaski, and a son John D, (Sally) Munson, Lacona; six grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren; four step sons, 13 step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren. 

Two brothers, John and Ralph Otis, died before her. 

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday Dec. 9, at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home in Belleville with Rev Brian Snyder of the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church officiating, Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home.
