— Wellington
F. "Bill" Burr, 77, of 43461 Beartown Road, died
early Thursday morning, Dec. 6, at his residence where he
was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson
County.
Born Sept. 13, 1935, in the town of Greig, the son of the
late Howard and Lena France Burr, he attended school in
Martinsburg.
He married the former Mary Jane Woodside on Nov. 24, 1954,
at the Methodist Church in Carthage.
Mr. Burr worked for the Town of Wilna Highway Department for
several years before joining New York Air Brake in
Watertown. He worked there for over 30 years, retiring as a
tester/inspector.
He was a sergeant in the Army Reserves and with the 127th
Maintenance Company, National Guard.
Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed wood
working.
He was a former track champion at the Evans Mills Speedway
in 1971 & 1972, driver of the #8 Pontiac in the Charger
Class.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Burr, Natural Bridge; two
sons, Keith A. Burr, Natural Bridge, and Dale R. Burr,
Wilkesboro, N.C.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren;
a brother, Ted Burr, Picayune, Miss.; and several nieces and
nephews.
A brother, Howard Burr Jr., and three sisters, Minnie "Tiny"
Robbins, Marjorie Davie and Maudie Harris, all died before
him.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at Hillside
Cemetery, Natural Bridge. The body will be cremated.
Family and friends are invited to his home to call at their
convenience.
Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home,
Carthage.
