Doris
“Dottie” Barkley, 92, a former resident of Carthage and
Antwerp, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at The Samaritan Keep Home
in Watertown, where she had been a resident since 2002.
Born May 17, 1920, in Oswegatchie , a daughter of John and
Elizabeth Jackson Beebee, she graduated from school in
Oswegatchie.
She married Kenneth G. Barkley on April 6, 1938, in
Harrisville. Mr. Barkley died Aug. 1, 1987.
She was a barmaid for many years in various Carthage area establishments.
Surviving are three sons, Wayne, Watertown, Norman and his
wife, Molly, Carthage, Terry and his wife Amy, Carthage;
three daughters, Sharon and Claude Culbertson, Antwerp, Judy
and Charles Hickman, North Carolina, and Katherine and Riki
Barkley, Watertown; 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was the last remaining sibling out of 7 children.
She enjoyed acting. She often imitated “Minnie Pearl” at
the Keep Home.
Calling
hours will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Lundy
Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St.,
Carthage. A calling hour will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Monday,
Dec. 17, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held
11 a.m. Monday in the Lundy Funeral Home chapel with Rev.
Ron Farr officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside
Cemetery, Watertown.
