M. Eleanor Peggs

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  ó  M. Eleanor Peggs, 89, formerly of 1135 Boyd St., passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, at Samaritan Keep Home where she had been a resident since June 2011.

Born Aug. 8, 1923, in Watertown, a daughter of William B. and Helen M. McCarthy Peggs, she graduated from Watertown High School in 1940 and Syracuse University in 1944 with a bachelorís degree. 

After college Miss Peggs went to work for American Airlines in New York City , she was the executive secretary for the Watertown Board of Education and was the assistant deputy clerk for the city of Watertown under May Coleman. 

Miss Peggs volunteered at Samaritan Medical Center, a member of the American Legion Post Auxiliary Post 61 and was active in various organizations at Holy Family Church.

Surviving are a sister and her husband, Jean and William Grady, Union, N.J.; eight nieces and nephews, William, Kevin and Scott Peggs, Karin McMahon, Jan Miciak, William Grady, III, Lisa Wadams, Brian Grady; several great nieces and nephews. 

A brother, George H. Peggs, died in 1996.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be 9:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home with a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Holy Family Church with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
