— Robert
J. Hutchins, 86, of 512 John St., died Thursday, Dec. 15, in
the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1925, in Martinsburg, the son of the late
Henry and Mary Agnes Sullivan Hutchins, he attended
Augustinian Academy and Carthage schools.
He served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World
War II from 1942 to 1946.
He married the former Beryl Joy Mono on Jan. 11, 1945, at
St. James Church, Carthage. He enlisted with the Army but
later served with the Marines during the Korean Conflict
from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Hutchins worked for the Carthage Machine Company where
he was in charge of stock control. He was employed for 26
years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of VFW Post # 7227, Carthage.
Surviving are his wife, Beryl, Carthage; two daughters,
Marcia Hutchins, Carthage, and Becky Snyder, Deltona, Fla.;
a son, Robert Hutchins, and his wife, Brenda, Carthage;
several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great great-granddaughter;
a sister, Diane Bodway, N.C.; two brothers, Michael, Okla.,
and Tommy, Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Dwight Hutchins, died Oct. 22, 2006. An infant son,
Joseph Hutchins, also died before him.
Funeral services will be held noon Monday, Dec. 19, at St.
James Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor,
officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St.
James Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
