Carl R. Spencer

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Carl R. Spencer, 66, of Highland Avenue, died Saturday morning, Dec. 17, at his home. 

The funeral will be noon Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Evan Zehr officiating. Burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Born July 16, 1945, in Lowville, a son of the late Willard J. and Lillian Presley Spencer, he attended Lowville Academy and worked on the family farm in Montague.   

While working for the Town of Montague Highway Department, he also worked at Kraft. He worked for the Town of Harrisburg Highway Department, and for Ribstone Silo of Lacona. He retired in 1985 from the Town of Watson Highway Department due to a disability.  

Mr. Spencer enjoyed woodworking, especially to donate the items to local charities and nursing home residents. He also enjoyed camping and fishing. He was pleased to spend time during the spring planting geraniums at the Lowville Rural Cemetery with his brother-in-law, Richard Hill.  

He treasured spending time with his family.  

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Marlene; four children, Carlton Spencer and his girlfriend, Kristi Best of  Glenfield, Lisa and Ken Thomas of Lowville, Connie and Mike Hirschey of New Bremen, Jennifer and John Christman of Lowville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Stanley (Yvonne); and George, all of Lowville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Olin of Glenfield; Laura (Richard) Hill of Lowville; two sisters-in-law, Sally and Linda Spencer and of Lowville; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one to arrive in May; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

A sister, Doris, three brothers, Glenn, Sr. and Raymond, and Richard “Tony” Spencer, a brother-in-law, Lloyd Olin, two nephews, Glenn Spencer, Jr. and Allen Spencer, all died before him.
