Catherine H. Stewart

ANTWERP, N.Y.  —  Catherine H. “Hilda” Stewart, 95, formerly of Lexington Avenue, died Saturday, Dec. 17, at Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur, where she had been a resident since 2007. 

Born June 4, 1916, in Deposit, N.Y., the daughter of the late Stephen and Theresa Ronacher Dindl, she attended Antwerp High School. 

She married Burl G. Hendrickson and the couple lived in Antwerp.  Mr. Hendrickson died June 11, 1975.  She married Donald Stewart in the late 1970s.   

Mrs. Stewart worked at Olga’s Knitting Mill in Watertown and Borden Milk Plant in Antwerp. 

She enjoyed crafting, fishing, playing cards, baking, gardening, making quilts, crocheting and hooking rugs. 

Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Earnest Rebekah Lodge #16 in Antwerp. 

Survivors include a daughter, Carol McConnell, Gouverneur; a daughter-in-law, Jean Monroe, Watertown; a sister, Katherine Reid, Griffin, Ga.; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. 

Besides her husbands, Burl Hendrickson and Donald Stewart, a son, Burl R. Hendrickson, three brothers, Joseph, Franklin and Stephen Dindl, three sisters, Mary and two in infancy, and a sister-in-law, Rose Fontaine died before her. 

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa, with Rev. Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Antwerp. 

A calling hour will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the funeral.
