John H. Sheehan

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  John H. Sheehan, 99, formerly of 186 Thompson Blvd., died Monday, Dec. 17, at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home. 

The family would like to thank the third floor nurses and staff of Samaritan Keep for their kindness and assistance in caring for their uncle.

Born Feb. 14, 1913, in Glens Falls, N.Y., the son of Daniel and Mary Linehan Sheehan, he graduated from local schools and Boston University with a degree in business and two years of law school. 

John married Geraldine F. Uhteg on June 12, 1952. She died Feb. 4, 1999. 

He worked for Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Co. as regional manager in Watertown, retiring in 1977.

John was very active in community, being a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, the Jefferson County Historical Society, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Boston University Alumni Association, and Minnie Anthony Common Nature Center Board of Directors. He was a former member of the Syracuse Symphony Board of Directors and Chairman Award Score, the Watertown Rotary Club, of which he was a Paul Harris Fellowship Award Recipient and the board of Hospice of Jefferson County, Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity.

Surviving are several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A brother, Benjamin Sheehan and three sisters, Georgianne Stout, Mary Crissey and Edna Graves, died before him.

A funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. Patrick’s Church, Watertown. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangement are with the Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown.

Donations may be given in his memory to Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St., Watertown or the John and Geraldine Sheehan Scholarship Fund care of Jefferson Community College, Watertown.
