Elizabeth M. Bancroft

CARTHAGE, N.Y.  —  Elizabeth M. Bancroft, 82, of 36251 County Route 36, passed Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where she had been a patient.

Born July 16, 1929, in Harrisville, a daughter of William and Florence Petrie Metcalf, she attended Harrisville Central School.

She married Kenneth J. Bancroft Jr. on March 28, 1955, at the home of his mother. The couple settled in Carthage in 1966.

Mrs. Bancroft was a homemaker. 

She enjoyed crocheting, making doilies and bag holders, word puzzles, and spending time with her family.

Mr. Bancroft worked for St. Regis Paper Co., later known as Champion International Paper Co., retiring in 1993. He and his wife own and operate a business at their home selling homemade bird houses, bird feeders, and wooden lawn ornaments.

Among her survivors are her husband, Kenneth J. Bancroft Jr., Carthage; three daughters, Carol Cameron, N.C., Thelma Bancroft, Carthage, and Dorothy Pate, Massena; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Cindy Bancroft III, Carthage, William Bancroft, Lowville, and Raymond and Kathleen Bancroft, Copenhagen; a sister-in-law, Florence Metcalf, Gouverneur; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Dorothy Leaf, and four brothers, George, Carlton, Kenneth and Earl Metcalf, all died before her.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Bruce Funeral Home, Black River. Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec 22, at the funeral home.
