Loyde L.
Delles, 83, of County Route 29 died Saturday, Dec. 24, at
his home while under the care of his family and Hospice of
Jefferson County.
Born April 5, 1928 in Philadelphia, NY, he was the son of
Victor and Eva Arnold Delles, and graduated from
Philadelphia High School in 1946.
He entered the Marines on July 16, 1946, and was honorably
discharged Jan. 29, 1948, as a private first class.
He married Bertha M. Hull on Sept. 19, 1948, at the
Philadelphia United Methodist Church. The marriage ended in
divorce. He married Doris Benson in the early 1970s.
She died in August 1988. He married Juanita Fish in January
1997. She died in July 2011
Mr. Delles was a farmer, owned and operated the Eagle Hotel
in Philadelphia for 2 ½ years, until 1974, and was employed
with the town of Philadelphia Highway Department. He also
served as highway superintendent for one term.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, RVing and spending the winter
months in Florida.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gregory and
Laurie, Philadelphia, and Randy and Kim, Theresa; four
daughters and three sons-in-law, Katherine and Larry
Fioretto, Watertown, Patricia and Chuck Folsom, Redwood, and
Pamela and Gary Kallay and Kelly Wilson, all of
Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A son, Jeffrey, a daughter, Suzanne Delles, three brothers,
Victor, Gerald and Leonard, and three sisters, Dorothy
Schneider, Edna Backus and Vivian Myers, all died before
him.
There will be a gathering of friends and family at the
Robert Markwich American Legion Post 798, Philadelphia from
11 to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30.
