Errol S. Flynn

SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y.  —  Errol Scott Flynn, 71, of 103 Ray St., passed away Monday afternoon, Dec. 26, at the Carthage Area Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility after a long illness. 

Born March 9, 1940, in Watertown, the son of Kendrick and Vivian Paul Flynn, he graduated in 1958 from Carthage Central High School and attended college in Canton.

He married Roseanne Sutton on Oct. 27, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

He started his long career in the computer industry at IBM in 1960 and went on to work for Mohawk Data Science, Televideo, Novell and Xircom. 

Mr. Flynn's career brought him and his family to Utica, Chicago, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Boston and Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Errol and his wife retired to Sackets Harbor in 1994. They participated with their son Stephen in founding the Sackets Harbor Brewing Company in 1995.

He enjoyed building the business with his son, Stephen, spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and being active in the Sackets Harbor community. 

Errol's passion for the village of Sackets Harbor and his commitment to its vitality were recognized in 2006 when he was awarded citizen of the year. Errol served on the village board for several years.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Roseanne; two daughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Steven Oriola, Carlisle, Mass., and Paula and John Robinson, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; a son, Stephen Flynn, Sackets Harbor; seven grandchildren, Timothy, Michael, Adam, Samantha,
Sofie, Reese and Anne; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kay and William Scherer, Carthage, and Karol Van De Water, Statesville, N.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

A brother-in-law, Thomas R. Van De Water, died before him.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage, with the Deacon Richard J. Staab officiating. 

Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at The Scherer Funeral Home, which is now located at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.

Memorial donations may be made to the Skilled Nursing Facility’s Activity Fund at the Carthage Area Hospital, 1001 West St., Carthage, N.Y. 13619.
