Howard Meny

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Howard Meny, 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.  He was under the care of his loving family, Lewis County Hospice, and the 4th Floor Nursing Home Staff. 

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Point Lookout. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at O’Shea Funeral Home, Wantagh, NY. 

Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Queens, to the late Louis and Lily Meny, he graduated from John Adams High School in Queens, N.Y, lettering in football, wrestling and track.  He was a proud World War II Veteran who trained in the V-5 program for Naval Aviation and then went on to attend St. Lawrence University, where he lettered in football, wrestling and baseball. 

He worked as a manufactures’ representative for many different Marine Supply companies throughout his life.  

Howard enjoyed all sports and loved swimming, golfing, baseball and board games with his grandchildren. His family moved to Point Lookout in 1931 where he was a Life Guard on Point Lookout Beach and was a Volunteer Fireman.  

He has touched us all with his love of the ocean, beach, and Point Lookout Community.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Surviving him are his beloved wife, Joan A. Banvard Meny; a son, Dr. Howard T. Meny and his wife Jennifer, Lowville; a daughter Susan A. Cruickshanks, and her husband Douglas, Raleigh, NC, a daughter-in-law, Kim Horton Meny of Toronto, Canada; four grandchildren, John, Peter, Sarah and Heather; a brother, Robert Meny and his wife Vera of Tarpon Springs, FL, his sister Marjorie Otto, Melborne, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Diane Magrane, East Meadow, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Yvette Banvard, Point Lookout, N.Y.; and many loving nieces and nephews. 

Howard was predeceased by his youngest son, Thomas L. Meny, who passed away in 2000.  Thomas was a member of the FDNY.
