Elvira Sanderson

WATERTOWN, N.Y.
– Elvira Sanderson, 78, of 23157 Lodi Road, Dexter, died August 23  at  Mercy of Northern NY where she was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County since August 8.

Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. 

Calling hours will be Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  A prayer service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.  The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.  Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.

She was born on August 22, 1928 in Watertown, daughter of the late Harry and Florence DeNardo. 

She attended Watertown Schools.  Following school she worked at the Olga Knitting Mill. 

She married Franklin W. Sanderson of Dexter, on December 3, 1949, at the Hope Presbyterian Church in Watertown.  The couple resided in Watertown and moved to Dexter in 1973.

Elvira was a homemaker.  Franklin was a machinist and tool maker.  He retired from Fisher Gauge in 1991, after working there for over 20 years.

Among her survivors are her husband, Franklin W. Sanderson of Dexter, four daughters and four son in laws, Rita D. & Neal Petry of Virginia Beach, Va., Carol A. & Andy Samul of Marathon, Fla., Cynthia M. & Stuart Blacklaw of Canandaigua, N.Y., Michelle L. & Mark Nitschke of Clayton, two sons and two daughter in laws, Franklin J. & Beth Sanderson of Severn, MD, Kenneth W. & Beth Sanderson of Boonsboro, Md., several grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  

Five brothers, Antonio, Nicholas, Charles, Angelo, Joseph and a sister, Natalie Shoen died before her.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was  a communicate of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
