LOWVILLE, N.Y. —
Theresa F. Birchenough, 82, of the Bardo Road, passed away
Saturday evening, Jan. 1, with her family at her side.
A funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at
St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara,
pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Lowville Rural
Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with
the Sundquist Funeral Home.
Born March 1, 1928, in Dadville, N.Y., a daughter of Henry
J. and Frances B. Becker Bush, she graduated in 1946 from
Lowville Free Academy.
She married Maurice Garnet Birchenough on Sept. 30, 1950, in
St. Peter’s Catholic Church, New Bremen, with Rev. Sixtus
O’Connor, officiating. The couple observed their 60th
wedding anniversary in September 2010.
Theresa was a member of
St. Peters’ Catholic Church in Lowville and its Altar and
Rosary Society, where she enjoyed helping at various church
functions.
Mrs.
Birchenough was a dedicated mother and homemaker raising her
twelve children and caring for her grandchildren and great
grandchildren. For a short time, she worked at the Dadville
Tree Nursery.
Along with spending time with her extended family, Theresa
enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting and helping others
Surviving besides her husband are nine sons and three
daughters, Stephen and Marjorie, Turin, James and Pamela,
Mexico, N.Y., Neil and Emma, Lowville, Mark and Linda,
Castorland, Wayne and Kathy, New Bremen, Howard and Paula,
Oregon, Ohio, Philip and Juli, Lowville, Donald and Tammi,
Lowville, and Roy and Diane, Lowville; three daughters, Ann
and Douglas Wolff, Croghan, Amy and Donald Kraeger, Lowville,
and Colonel Helen K. Birchenough, Arlington, Va.; four
brothers, Robert Bush, Martinsburg, Lawrence Bush,
Watertown, Clement and Bernard Bush, Lowville; two sisters,
Christine Thoma, Castorland and Clara Matulewicz, Lowville;
26 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildrenl; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
A grandson, Jacob Birchenough, two sisters, Margaret Tabolt
and Marie Walters, and a daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson
Birchenough, all died before her.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic
Church in Mrs. Birchenough’s name.
