Watertown Police Department:
William E. Whitner IV, 24, of 130 Court St., apt. 602, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 8:10 p.m. Friday, May 25, at 46 Public Square with second-degree criminal contempt, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child. He is accused of violating the terms of a Family Court order of protection by holding a steak knife in a threatening manner towards Akira A. Hughes, 21, of 46 Public Square, apt. 207, while she was holding a 6-month-old girl during a domestic incident at about 7:18 p.m. Friday at 46 Public Square, police said. He is also accused of throwing an iPhone belonging Ms. Hughes against a wall, according to court documents. Ms. Hughes was charged with second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child. She is accused of threatening Mr. Whitner with a knife while holding the infant and threw his Xbox One video game system to the floor causing damage, police said. They were each arraigned before Town of Watertown Justice Matthew J. Porter and released on their own recognizance. They were each issued a stay-away order of protection and ordered to appear in City Court next week.
