Police: Watertown man punched Sunoco clerk, stole $12 and shirt

WATERTOWN, NYMatthew R. Alexis, 21, of 11 Public Square., Apt. 401, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 3:40 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building with third-degree robbery, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He is accused of punching an employee of Sunoco, 610 State St., while stealing a black thermal shirt valued at $12 and also took $12 in cash belonging to the store at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13, police said. He was arraigned before City Judge Eugene R. Renzi and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building with bail set at $1,000 cash. Mr. Alexis was later released after bail was posted, according to records at the jail.
