ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y.     An 18 year-old girl was the subject of a large search last night on the St. Lawrence River.

She had left Ivy Lea, Ontario, by jet-ski at about 6 p.m. Friday to meet her family on Grenadier Island. When she failed to arrive by dark, family and friends became concerned and a search of the islands along her intended path was initiated.

When she was not located, the search was expanded under the direction of the Canadian Coast Guard in Prescott, Ontario in cooperation with the Rescue Coordination Center for the Canadian Forces in Trenton, Ontario.

She was located stranded, but uninjured, in a swampy area near the northeast end of Grenadier Island.

A rescue helicopter from Trenton dropped a paramedic to assist her and they were hoisted to safety abut 10 p.m. Friday.

The search area extended from the western end of Wellesley Island downriver to Brockville and involved both American and Canadian waters.

Assisting in the search were the U.S. Coast Guard from Alexandria Bay, Wellesley Island fireboat, units of the Ontario Provincial Police, Canadian Coast Guard boats from Kingston, and several local boaters.
