WATERTOWN, N.Y.   A Fort Drum man was charged Thursday evening with animal cruelty, according to the Watertown Police Department.

Eric Ayuso, 25, of HHC 187th Infantry, is accused of "intentionally causing serious physical injury, being a severed toe, to a house cat by trying to remove the toe in the bathroom of his residence, 1223 Faichney Dr., Apt. 2, at about noon Nov. 8 while not being educated in veterinary medicine. The injury caused by the defendant resulted in the cat's toe having to be amputated," according to court documents.

The cat belongs to his wife, Ashley N. Ayuso, 1223 Faichney Dr., Apt. 2, police said.

He was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment Friday morning in City Court.
