Police: Driver Heading Wrong Way on I-81 Charged with Aggravated DWI

A 24-year-old Westchester County man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after
driving the wrong way on Interstate 81 in the town of Ellisburg, according to
J. Starkey, 24, of Katonah, N.Y., was charged at 1:45 p.m. with aggravated
driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
His blood alcohol content was 0.20 percent, troopers said. A BAC of 0.08
percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated
DWI, which carries a harsher penalty upon conviction is charged when the BAC is
0.18 percent or greater.
Troopers began to receive reports at about 12:54 p.m. of a vehicle heading
north in the southbound lane of Interstate 81 in Oswego County near exit 36 at

Starkey was arraigned before Ellisburg Town Justice Peter C. Payne and sent to
the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building
with bail set at $1,000 cash which was later posted.
While being processed at the jail, he provided a
home address of Route 104A, Oswego.
