Randy J. Bernat, 61, Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY – Randy J. Bernat, 61, died on Saturday morning, May 19, 2018, at his home surrounded by family and under the care of Lewis County Hospice.

Born Nov. 20, 1956, in Lowville, NY, the son of Katherine Repak Bernat and the late Ernest Bernat, he graduated in 1975 from Lowville Academy and Central School.

He was employed by NYS DOT in Lowville for 20 years, retiring in January of 2018.

He is survived by his mother, Katherine; his sister and her husband, Eileen M. (Philip) Zehr of Canastota; his two brothers, Dean E. of Branford, CT; and Terry J. (Lora) Bernat of Rochester; nieces, Lindsey Zehr, Jessica Zehr, Kimberly Zehr and Mary Bernat; nephews, George Bernat and Henry Bernat.   Randy is predeceased by his father, Ernest Bernat in 2002.

Randy was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville B.P.O.E. Lodge #1605, and a member of the Lowville Marine Corps League.  Randy was an avid follower of LACS sports and a former Watertown Red and Black football player.  He loved to spend time visiting with family and friends, working out and going for rides on his 4-wheeler and motor bike.

A funeral Mass for family and friends will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Jay Seymour, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lowville Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
