ALEXANDRIA BAY, Aug. 31 —
A ribbon-cutting
ceremony was held Friday, Aug. 31, at River Hospital’s
new ambulatory surgery unit.
The surgical unit, which will be under the direction
of general surgeon Dr. David Rosner, was dedicated
in loving memory to the late Anthony “Tony” Malara, a wonderful friend,
benefactor, volunteer and spokesperson for River
Hospital.
Some of the new services being offered in the Surgical Unit will be
endoscopies, colonoscopies and other surgical procedures which do not require
an overnight stay by the patient. Other additional services being planned are
Gynecology, Ophthalmology, and ENT. Patients will no longer have to
travel to other communities for standard procedures. The hospital
anticipates serving at least 1,600 patients the first year.
The completion and dedication of the surgical unit reflects the mission of River
Hospital and River
Hospital Foundation.

Mary Malara did the honors of cutting
the ribbon with daughter, Beth, by her side.
