Department of Health Levies
Fines for Violations

  WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  The state Department of Health listed the following food service violations and fines for August in documents obtained first by Newzjunky.com.
  
   Watertown Golf Club, Thompson Park, Watertown, paid a total of $1,000 in fines, including a $100 fine for six severely dented cans of chopped and crushed tomatoes in the dry storage area, a $100 fine for twenty pounds of moldy bread and approximately twenty pounds of moldy corn were found in a refrigeration unit, a $100 fine for six quarts of "Quick Quiche" that was found at 79 degrees in a broken freezer, $100 for four pounds of lemon bars at 63 degrees  and five uncooked fruit pies at 51 degrees in a broken refrigeration unit, a $100 fine for a refrigeration unit, containing spoiled food, was not functioning, two $50 fines for unlabeled food products that were stored in a refrigeration units, a $50 fine for a floor in the walk-in cooler that was in poor repair and uncleanable, a $50 fine for excessive and/or dried food particles noted on the floor of the walk-in cooler, a $100 fine for uncleanable floors in the dry storage room, restrooms and behind the bar, a $50 fine for handwashing stations not equipped with soap and hand-drying accommodations, a $50 fine for lighting fixtures in the dry storage area that was not shielded, and a $100 fine for rodent droppings noted in the dry storage area.

   Ponderosa, 1290 Arsenal St., Watertown, paid a total of $350 in fines, including a $150 fine for hot dogs in the steam table under the grill station near the buffet at 86 degrees, a $100 fine for a large pan of breaded chicken wings on the buffet line out of temperature, and a $100 fine for bins being used to hold potatoes in the walk-in cooler that were dirty and too large to properly clean.

   New China Buffet, 1241 Arsenal St., Watertown, paid a total of $550 in fines including a $200 fine for potentially hazardous foods stored at unacceptable temperatures, a $50 fine for flour and sugar by the microwave and food products stored in uncovered containers, a $100 fine for shelving in the walk-in cooler and preparation unit that was rusty and not cleanable, a $50 fee for floors in the kitchen encrusted with grease and food particles, a $50 fine a ventilation hood encrusted in grease, a $50 fine for equipment encrusted with grease and food particles, and a $50 fine for no soap available in the employee restroom.

   Subway, 26121 U.S. Route 11, Calcium, paid a total of $200 in fines including a $100 fine for operating a facility without a permit on June 28, and a $100 fine for not paying an annual $75 environmental health services fee due March 1.
 
   Koffee Kove Restaurant, 220 James St., Clayton, paid a total of $250 in fines, including a $100 fine for potentially hazardous foods that were stored at unacceptable temperatures, a $100 fine for a large covered container of chicken and rice soup was in the walk-in cooler at a temperature range of 90 degrees to greater than 140 degrees, and a $50 fine for the "lunch" sandwich preparation unit was not working properly to maintain temperatures of potentially hazardous food at/or below 45 degrees.

   The Kountry Kottage, 43641 Route 12, Alexandria Bay, paid a total of $225 in fines, including a $100 fine for approximately one gallon of gravy was on the stove at 130 degrees, a $25 fine for the shelf covering under the preparation table was ripped and worn, a $50 fine for "Ant B Gone" stored on a shelf in the dry storage area, and a $50 fine for bags of potatoes that were stored on the floor in the kitchen and a hotel pan of chicken was stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler.

   Dock of the Bay, 2 James St., Alexandria Bay, paid a total of $225 in fines including a $100 fine for potentially hazardous foods that were not maintained at 45 degrees or below, a $50 fine for the "Red Bull" counter top refrigerator had ice build-up on the compressor and was not working properly, a $50 fine for the front doors and the doors to the preparation kitchen were held open, and a $25 fine for the door frames of the two glass doors to the walk-in cooler were not clean in that mildew was present.

   Knights of Columbus, 416 James St., Clayton, paid a total of $75 in fines including a $50 fine for approximately one-gallon of beef broth and three pounds of cooked salt potatoes that were on the stove at 130 degrees and the burner was not on at the time of inspection, and a $25 fine for soiled utensils that were stored on the counter.

   2 Charlie's, 40242 Route 3, Carthage, paid a $100 fine for failing to obtain and/or report the results of the required bacteriological sample for the first and second quarters of 2007.

   Tom and Geri's, 33926 Route 3, Champion, paid a $150 fine for failing to obtain and/or report the results of the required bacteriological sample for the fourth quarter of 2006 and the first and second quarters of 2007.

   Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center, 7955 Brantingham Road, Greig, paid a $100 fine for operator not notifying the Watertown district office of a reportable incident within 24 hours of discovery of the incident.
