Human Remains Found
in Hay Field Near Town
of Hounsfield Water Tower
WATERTOWN, Sept. 16 —
Human remains were discovered on
Sunday evening on Old Rome State Road in the town of Hounsfield near the water
tower, according to Jefferson County Sheriff John P. Burns.
At
around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, a man who was working in a hay field made the
discovery and contacted the sheriff's department.
Sheriff Burns said an investigation into the
death is under way. Members of the Watertown Police Department were assisting at the scene.
"This does not look like it has anything to do with the discovery on outer
Ives Street Road," Burns said.
The identity, sex and age of the remains are not known at this time, however
there was clothing found which may assist in the investigation.
"We have probably three to four people we have missing. A couple
from the city and one from out in the county, so we are following up leads on
those people," Burns said.
One of those missing persons is Sgt.
Patrick S. Rust, 24, a Fort Drum soldier, who was last seen on Arsenal
Street in the city of Watertown at about 1:15 a.m. on March 16, according to
his mother. Rust is a
graduate of Edwards-Knox Central School.
