Autopsy: Accidental Death

June 12, 2007, 12:10 p.m.

ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. —   An autopsy of Eric J. Hutchinson's body was performed Friday by Dr. Samuel Livingstone.  The nature of death was determined to be accidental with the cause of death listed as fresh water drowning, troopers said.

Police: Man Drowns in Alex Bay

June 6, 2007, 4:25 a.m.

ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. —   The State Police in Watertown were contacted at about 12:10 a.m. Friday  by a caller reporting that a friend had fallen into the water adjacent to the Fisherman's Wharf Motel on Sisson Street in Alexandria Bay and had not surfaced. 

The victim, Eric J. Hutchinson, 28, of 9 High St., Alexandria Bay, was walking on the dock adjacent to the motel when he fell into the St. Lawrence River. 

The Jefferson County STAR team personnel recovered Mr. Hutchinson from 14 feet of water, approximately 10 feet from the dock. The temperature of the water at the time was 47 degrees. 

Mr. Hutichinson was placed aboard a U.S. Coast Guard vessel and subsequently transported by ambulance to River Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

The cause of death is pending an autopsy at Samaritan Medical Center, however no signs of foul play were apparent.

State Police were assisted by the U.S. Border Patrol, N.Y. State Park Police, U.S. Coast Guard, Jefferson County STAR team, and Alexandria Bay Fire and Ambulance.
