Route I-81 in the Vicinity of Exit 49: This project involves the removal of the I-81 bridges over an abandoned NYC RR bed. Motorists need to be aware of work activity in the area. Traffic is reduced to a single lane in each direction with a speed limit of 45 mph. The project is scheduled for completion October 2008.
Route 12E from Lyme town line to Cape Vincent village: State forces will be conducting paving operations. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle. Motorists may expect minor delays.

ST.
LAWRENCE COUNTY
Route 3 and Route 56, Towns of Colton and Piercefield:
Work is continuing on the Tri-Lakes project on Route 56 and Route 3, in the Towns of Colton and Piercefield. Traffic flow will be controlled by flag persons, as needed, with minor delays to the traveling public.
Route 11, Between Canton and Potsdam: Work continues on the new entrance to WalMart and Tractor Supply on Rt. 11 in Potsdam. Lane widening and shoulder reconstruction is taking place. Work has also begun on the new traffic signal installation. The traveling public can expect minor delays as reduced speed, two way traffic is taking place when possible with one way traffic controlled by flagpersons when necessary.
Route 37, Port of Entry at Massena: Route 37 north of Massena at the international border crossing is now a two lane/two way highway with two traffic signals controlling vehicles headed to and from the border. Work to remove the old westbound lanes and bridges will continue and may require periodic lane closures on the traffic circle. Lane closures will marked with work zone signs and traffic will be controlled by flaggers. Travelers are advised to be aware of new and changing traffic patterns throughout the construction period. All construction is expected to be completed by fall 2009.
Route 72 From Parishville to Hopkinton: State maintenance forces will be paving Route 72. Traffic will be controlled by a pilot vehicle and flag people. Motorists may experience minor delays. Project should last two weeks.
Route 3 From Star Lake to Wanakena: This segment will have a fiber surface treatment applied to the main line by contract. Traffic will be controlled by flag people and should experience minor delays. Please note that there will be a 30 MPH speed reduction while the project is being completed. This job should last three days. This segment will be covered by hot mix asphalt later in August.
Route 310 From Canton to Madrid: This segment will be paved by contract starting August 4. Traffic will be controlled by a pilot vehicle and experience minor delays. The project should last about a week, weather permitting.
Route 345 over Big Sucker Brook in
Waddington: This is a bridge replacement project. The contract is just getting underway and motorists should be alert to construction activity in the area. Motorists traveling along State Route 345 in that area will encounter a detour around the Big Sucker Brook Bridge. The detour will facilitate the replacement of the existing structure and will utilize Linden Street, County Route 44, and Allison Road. The overall length of the detour is 3.3 miles and will be in place until further notice. The scheduled project completion is November 2008.
Route 345 over Grasse River, Madrid: The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has closed the State Route 345 Bridge over the Grasse River in Madrid, St. Lawrence County due to safety concerns. The structure was previously posted to a 15 ton weight limit and has been closed pending further engineering investigations. Preliminary investigations have shown that separations occurring in structural elements have reached a state where closure is warranted to ensure safety and preserve the structure. While the structure is closed, traffic will utilize the following designated detour: State Route 345 to County Route 14, which becomes County Route 34, to State Route 310, then returning to State Route 345. The detour length is approximately eight miles. The structure will remain open to pedestrian traffic but closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.
Route 58 From Brasie Corners to Pope Mills: A Chip Seal Surface Treatment project is tentatively slated to begin this week on this segment by contract. Traffic will be controlled by flag people and should experience minor delays. The job should last two days. NOTE: This project will be posted for 30 MPH and LOOSE GRAVEL up to 3 days beyond the project completion.
Countywide Work: Mowing, tree work, bridge work, crack sealing and pavement marking are being done on roadsides in various locations throughout St. Lawrence County during the Spring and Summer months. Motorists should exercise caution when approaching these operations and allow for minor delays during daytime work hours.
