Rose M. Barker, 89, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — Rose M. Barker, 89, formerly of Sayre Road, Carthage, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2019, at Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown where she has resided for three years.

Born April 14, 1929, in Carthage, the daughter of the late Anthony and Antoinette (DeCilles) Pignone Sr., she graduated in 1945 from Augustinian Academy.

She married Walter P. Barker Jr. on May 24, 1946, at St. James Church with Rev. DeAngelo, officiating. Walter died on Feb. 25, 2012.

Rosie worked as a teacher’s aide at Augustinian Academy for many years.

She was a member of St. James Church and the St. Joseph’s Workers. She took part in the weekly cleaning of the church and helping at various activities of the church.

She was an avid quilter and held weekly quilting parties in her home.

She is survived by her three children, Charles Barker and his wife, Marcia of Tuscaloosa, AL, Priscilla Charlton and her husband Douglas of Farmington and Nicholas P. Barker of Philadelphia; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis (Donald) Schwendy of Carthage; a brother, Carl (Louise) Pignone, Black River; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her infant son Randolph,  three brothers, Anthony Jr., Michael and James Pignone, and two sisters, Lena Abrams and Priscilla Campbell.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
