Russell J. Hirschey, 71, Kayuta Lake

KAYUTA LAKE, NY – Russell J. Hirschey, 71, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018.

A native and life resident of Boonville, Russ was born June 10, 1947, a son of Dr. Wilbur C. and Marion Davis Hirschey.

He graduated from Boonville Central School, before earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Utica College of Syracuse University.

Thereafter for over 30 years, Mr. Hirschey was employed in the retail fuel business, beginning with Williams Oil Co. Remsen and continuing with Mohawk Valley Oil Co. and Sunoco, before retiring from Superior Energy Co., Marcy, NY.

On June 15, 1968, Russ was united in marriage with the love of his life, Andrea H. Wright, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville, and a blessed union which endured for 50 years. In 1969, the couple settled at their residence near Kayuta Lake.

For several years Mr. Hirschey served his community as a member of the Forestport Town Board and later as Supervisor of the Town of Forestport.

Russ was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church, the Upper Balsam Flats Hunting Club and the Boonville Lodge of Elks # 2158.

He greatly enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, history, was an avid reader and was a Syracuse University Orange Basketball Fan and a NY Yankee fan.

Russ will be fondly remembered as being a good man who loved and served his community and who in his gentle and helpful spirit, was a friend to everyone.

In addition to his wife, Andrea, Russ is survived by one son, Jonathan R. (Kim) Hirschey, Deerfield; one daughter, Michele Hirschey and Kevin Hoage, Greensboro, NC; two grandsons, Cooper and Carter Hirschey; his mother, Marion Hirschey, Boonville; two sisters, Kay (Tim) Skjellerup, Boonville and Barbara (Robert) Kotz, Syracuse and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment to follow in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
