Violet L. Kennell, 85, Sarasota, FL

CASTORLAND, NY — Violet L. Kennell, 85, of Sarasota, FL, died Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2018, at Lewis County General Hospital while visiting her family.

The Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at Naumburg Mennonite Church with Titus Mast and Myron Roggie, Pastors, officiating.  Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the church. Burial will be in Palms Memorial Park, Sarasota, FL.

Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Mark; five children and their spouses, Mark Jr. and Elaine Kennell of Sarasota, FL, Marcille and Jim Kurtz of Sarasota, FL, Mervin and Jennie Kennell of Sarasota, FL, Maureen and Merv Zehr of Lowville, Marcia and Simon Jr. Gingerich of Lowville; four sisters, Joan Roberston, Sarah (Dale) Lyndaker, Florence (Gene) Zoll, Eva (Gary) Williams; two brothers, David (Marie) Yousey and Herbert (Edith) Yousey; a sister-in-law, Betty Yousey; 16 grandchildren and   10 great grandchildren, with one on the way; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, Norman Yousey; a brother-in-law, Robbie Robertson; a grandson, Travis Kennell and a granddaughter, Alyssa Zehr.

Born March 20, 1933, in Castorland, a daughter of the late Ezra and Marion Moshier Yousey, she attended Lowville Academy and graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg, VA in 1951. She worked on the family farm, before she was married.

On Sept. 16, 1954, she married Mark A. Kennell at Dadville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Lloyd Boshart, officiating. Together with her husband, she was in 1W service at Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, NY from October 18, 1954 to October 18, 1956. She raised her family of five children.

She worked privately in homes for housekeeping and caregiving.  She was a custodian at Bayshore Mennonite Church and Sarasota Christian School.

Together with her husband, she was then co-owner of K&K Lawn Service for 22 ½ years. She was very proud to have earned her CNA certification.

Mrs. Kennell was a member of Bayshore Mennonite Church. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed baking and working outdoors with flowers.
