Watertown High School class leaders of 2018 announced

The valedictorian of the Watertown High School Class of 2018 is Elissa Prieto, left in the photo above, daughter of Adolfo Prieto and Luz Rodriguez.

Elissa has excelled at AP Chemistry, AP U.S. History, AP English, AP Calculus, AP Biology and Physics. Elissa is a National Hispanic Scholar and a National Merit Commended Scholar.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and the president of the Student
Council. Elissa is the first chair flute and piccolo in the WHS Wind Ensemble and
she has performed in the Bi-County Band and Area All-State Orchestra. Elissa
scored a perfect score of 800 on her SAT Math 2 Subject Test.

Elissa is a WHS representative to the noontime Rotary Club and she is a WWNY
TV/7 NEWS Academic All-Star. Elissa has volunteered at the Flower Memorial
Library and at Samaritan Medical Center. She is a past participant of the Medical
Academy of Science and Health Camp at Jefferson Community College. Elissa is
the president of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and she is a
member of the Environmental Club, the Interact Club and Ohio Reading
Buddies. Elissa is a member of the WHS Whiz Quiz Team and the WHS Varsity
Girls Swim Team.

This fall, Elissa will enter Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where she plans to major in Biochemistry or Neuroscience. Elissa’s overall grade point average is 99.28

The salutatorian of the Watertown High School Class of 2018 is Madeline Grace
Fitzsimmons, right in the photo above, daughter of Michael Fitzsimmons and Laurie Fitzsimmons.

Madeline has excelled at AP U.S. History, AP Biology, Spanish 5 and Calculus.
She is the recipient of the Watertown City School District’s CARE Award,
numerous academic awards and she was a featured artist in the Tri-County Art
Show. Madeline is the vice-president of the WHS Environmental Club and she is
a member of both the Diversity Club and Ohio Reading Buddies.

Madeline is a member of the National Honor Society and she is a WHS
representative to the noontime Rotary Club. Madeline has volunteered for the
North Country Goes Green Irish Festival and for the Red Cross Blood Drive.

This fall, Madeline will attend Jefferson Community College to pursue a career in environmental science and journalism. She then plans to transfer to the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. Madeline’s overall grade point average is 98.58.
