Watertown man charged with DWI, grabbing police officer’s utility belt

WATERTOWN, NYCurtney J. Smith, 28, of 700 Mill St., Apt. 2, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 1:48 a.m. Saturday, March 2, in the 100 block of Washington St. with driving while intoxicated, failure to stop at a red light, illegal signal, unsafe movement of a stopped motor vehicle, refusal to take a breath test and second-degree harassment.

Mr. Smith allegedly grabbed the vest and utility belt of a police officer and attempted to pull the officer towards him while being processed in the booking room in the Mtero-Jefferson Public Safety Building, police said.

An injured pedestrian was taken by Guilfoyle Ambulance for treatment. Police did not provide further details about the incident.

Mr. Smith was arraigned before Town of Watertown Justice Matthew J. Porter who released pending further action in City Court.
