William “Bill” Hewitt, 88, Three Mile Bay

THREE MILE BAY, NY — William “Bill” Hewitt passed away Jan. 15, 2019, at the Hospice Home in Watertown, NY.

Born July 17, 1930, to the late John and Louise Hewitt, Three Mile Bay, he graduated in 1948 from Lyme Central School, Chaumont. He worked with his father on the family farm until 1950.

On Oct. 14, 1950, he married Mary Anne Wallace in the Chaumont Presbyterian Church. They resided in Three Mile Bay operating a dairy farm. In 1966 he went to work for the New York State Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1992 on the Bridge Maintenance Crew.

He served on the Lyme Central School Board for many years and was President for several terms. Bill had been a past member of the Three Mile Bay Fire Department and was an active member of the Three Mile Bay Methodist Church.

He enjoyed hunting, reading, going to auctions and his family.

He is survived by a daughter Marget (Meg) and William Mayers, Gouverneur; a daughter Tracey and Robert Lawson, Three Mile Bay; a daughter, Heidi and Jose Bernier, Dexter; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and seven great- great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary and a son John.

Per his request there will not be any calling hours or funeral.

A private burial will be at the Three Mile Bay Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
